Sorry for the noob question, I tried searching, both here and with Google, I cannot find a download link.
Thanks

I got my USB drive today. 30mb/s read, 15mb/s write- fresh out of the box. I heard setting it to NTFS would improve performance, so I did it. I decided just format it back to FAT32 immediately because I know NTFS file system on a USB drive is detrimental. But now, it's formatted FAT32 and allocation unit size is 64kilobytes. My read speed hovers around 25.5mb/s and write is around 6.6mb/s. What's wrong?

A couple of months ago I lost my only Patriot 4gb microSD card, and after several exhaustive searches, I finally gave up a couple of weeks ago and conceded that it had probably been a victim of the vacuum cleaner.

Today I was shuffling stuff in prep for an extended trip and was in the process of converting camera SD cards to microSD in SD adapter cards when I happened to notice that the usb "contact side" of the usb connector on the SIIG microSD reader http://siig.com/Files/Images/Product...0612-S1-w2.gif was "occupied"

A closer look confirmed that there were two microSD's in the reader... earlier, when I checked the reader to see if the 4gb card was there, the eject exposed only the 2gb card, and, sure enough, the other card was the 4gb card. So, if you have one of these type readers, be careful where you stick the card ;-)

MicroSD Adapter Cautionary Tale

Over the past couple of years I have purchased around fifteen 2gig microSD cards most of which have been Patriot and included Patriot SD to microSD adapter cards, five of which I have carried with me regularly for over a year.

Today, checking the micro's carried in SD adapters exposed the fact that these traveling adapters were not making reliable connections when I went to look at each card's contents.

This makes sense because of the engineering need to keep the plastic top and bottom of the adapter thin enough to still accept the micro makes them vulnerable to distortion, especially here in the summer.

fwiw, a "quick fix" is to cut a piece of paper and slide it in on the top side of the micro.

The next thought is to not carry or store the microSD cards in the SD adapters to prevent the deformation of the plastic and inserting them only when the adapter is needed.

Hope that this information is of value.
My Patriot drive was not working this morning providing an error on
windows recognition so I requested the format tool. I was sent the low
level format tool from (*****@patriotmem.com) and now the device does
work but it is only recognized as USB 1.0 on may computer and many USB
ports. I think we may need to perform a RMA.
Reason i ask is that i'm thinking of buying the 32gb version but will hold off if the 64gb version is out soon. Out of interest how long has the 32gb version been out for?

So I was very excite to see something that had such fast write speeds so I spent a ton of money on this and so far I am extremely disappointed.

Apparently there are others that received these defective units. How do we go about getting replacements that function correctly?

My testbed is a brand new core i3 laptop with an intel x25-m SSD (bottom line, PC is not the bottle neck)

Here are my speeds:

50MB test file, repeted 5 times using crystaldiskmark 3.0
Seq read - 25.30MB/sec
Seq write - 14.62MB/sec

512k read - 25.32MB/sec
512k write - 6.421MB/sec

4K read - 3.69MB/sec
4k write - .054MB/sec

Slow write speeds in brand new Patriot Xporter XT Rage 16GB

I just received a brand new one of these today.

I bought this drive primarily because I really need fast writes, and am sick of the pathetically slow write speeds most "flash" drives offer.

Since I need to work with large (> 2 GB) files all the time, I immediately enabled optimize for performance and reformated the drive as ntfs.

I was disappointed to see that the write speed on single large files is poor: testing with both a 1.6 GB as well as a 3 GB file, I consistently measured about 15 MB/s write speeds. The drive is supposed to have more like 25 MB/s writes.

I tried turning off optimize for performance with ntfs, and got about the same write speed. (Does it ever make a difference?) I also tried reformatting the drive back into fat32, with optimize for performance both enabled and disabled, and always got the same 15 MB/s write speeds.

Do you guys have any idea what happened? How come I am not seeing the advertised write speed?

Looking at this forum, I see that lots of people have write speed issues with older Patriot models. Do I really need to do a low level format of the drive or something? Should I try changing the allocation unit size to something larger?
